Have a 99 2ltr diesel freelander and noticed the heater is rubbish, to get any heat out of it needs to be on blower setting 2, its the same with the air conditioning blower setting 1 is a total waste of time. Is this normal or is there something that needs to be done to improve it?

The heater leaves a lot to be desired but mine does do the job eventually. Check your coolant level is okay and bleed the hose into the heater matrix so to make sure you've got maximum water circulation.

Mine has the ceramic element as well and is still bloody useless. Only realised it when I saw the lights dim as I turned the control to the red area while idling:confused:

maybe your pollen filter is totally blocked? Do you get a nice rush of air when, its cranked up?

Mine was much improved when I changed my totally blocked pollen filter.
They're often neglected but not all models have them fitted. The standard heater isn't brilliant but another thought I had was using one of the coolant additives like heater hotter which makes the coolant more heat conductive & also helps to keep the engine cooler. To be fair though the change of pollen filter really did make a huge difference to mine compared to the previous winter.
