Have done a search but can not find anything so thought I would ask the 'pro's'. With this wet weather we are having at the mo, when I get in my 90 the front window will either be clear or slightly misted up but as soon as I turn on the heaters I get condensation running down the windscreen. It seems as if the heaters are blowing out damp air. Is this even possible or is this just another 'Defender thing' that I can not do anything about. Its quite frustrating having to keep wiping the window down as I am driving.

Cheers

Sounds like you have water in the heater intake.

Undo the screws and remove the black plastic cover on top of the passenger side wing and see if you have water in there. There is a rubber drain valve that is most likely blocked. With a bit of gentle massaging and prodding or a quick blow with an air line you should be able to unblock it.

Well I gave the nipple a little massage without taking anything apart and about a litre of water came out so hopefully that should help.

That "nipple" as you put it serves no real purpose that I could see.
All that happens is over time it gets clogged up with gunk again and eventually no water will go through at all.
Then when it rains the intake section fills right up and then flows into the heater fan.
Turn the heater on and bang blown fuse :doh:

Just take the nipple out and it will never get blocked again.
(you can yank it out from underneath the intake duct through the engine bay)

Thanks mate, was thinking about cutting it out but did not want to incase it was needed. If it just pulls out then thats even better. Looks like thats what I will be doing. When the intake pipe gets blocked where else does the water go because I had a strange electrical smell inside the landy yesterday when I turned the heater on, but no fuses blew and the heater stilll works. Smell has stopped now but could there be more water somewhere else that I might need to empty out??

Hmmm I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but the only place i think the water can go from that pipe is either out through the hole at the bottom or into the heater.
If it goes above the lip the water goes straight into the heater.
If there isn't to much of it the heater will turn on and then the water will get pushed through the system.
The smell could have been the heater fan motor hotting up due to the increased load of shifting the water.
Didn't get any smell with mine the fuse just blew straight away if there was water in there.

Look at these pics of mine

You can see the water line goes up to the lip and then obviously drains into the heater
Since nipple removed no problems
Try that and see if you still get the smell.

The other option is to just check it regularly while doing other maintainance tasks on your landy.

I think the idea is that it's supposed to let water drain but stop stuff being spayed in from underneath. The thing is, where the drain valve is situated nothing is going to get in and all that happens is it blocks up like yours (and mine). Either check it regularly, cut the bottom off or pull it out completely.

Well after emptying the pool out of it yesterday my heaters now clear the windscreen lovely so that was definately the problem. I have got a long piece of thick wire bent perfectly to fit down through the vent and pushes the crap out of the nipple, so will only take a few seconds to do every so often.

Thanks all
