Have you bleed the air from the system via the heater pipe bleed screw?
If the cooling system is pressurized before the gauge moves then it's possible that the HG has failed. I leak down test is the most reliable way to check
well what i've found was the block was somwhat clogged, so i flushed it several times, looking at the thermostat, it seems to be working, i've boiled it and it has seemed to open... but the bottom part of the stat just streches out,... im wondering if its even opening right... is the first image suppose to open more??
Ok, i just got a therm straight from the dealer, hey i been driving for about a year with 50/50 green coolant and my manual says (OAT) i think orange(dex) well at least the coolant tank shows orange.... could this be a possible reason for stat malfunction, via (dex) is for aliumium/brass/copper? And or does freelander take red or green?

It's funny i think of some of my videos and Hippo's comments about some nutter doing the solenoid resistance testing on the gearbox with the engine running and battery completely connected..... i fear the exact same thing for someone watching my video on how to adjust the thermostat setting on your electric home water heater, notice i've saturated it with safety warnings..! hehehe The wires inside there are much more than just 12V, i still think there's bound to be some nutter out there who'll open that panel and start messing with the wires but in the excitement of it all has forgotten to switch off the power......!
