Hi,

Decided to swap my heater box today for a td5 one I bought last year. The bigger heater matrix is supposed to be a good upgrade. All's going well so far, apart from the fact that the vent flap hinges don't have the bits you need for attaching the cables. You can see what bits I mean from this photo of my old box:

Any idea on how I can swap these over? I'm not entirely sure I can figure out how this has been constructed lol!

If you look at the picture, below the screw is a hole. The cable goes through the hole and is clamped into place by the screw.

The whole end should pivot ... but it don't matter if it doesn't.

The cable sleeve is atttached to the bulkhead.

Thanks for the reply :) the problem was actually down to getting that whole assembly off and on to the hinge on the new box. I've literally just managed to get it off, and decided just to Weld it. all sorted :)

I'm getting there. any one know the best way to ensure that the coolant goes in to the matrix properly? ta

Thanks for that :) All sorted now. I have to say; what an upgrade! Going uphill, holding my hand over the vents, it was getting almost too hot to keep my hand there, like a hair dryer almost :) The heater box is from a 2006 defender, and it works!!

Welding the arm seems to be the only solution. The stupid clip that holds the arm onto the shaft is NOT available. I'm in the process of swapping over heater boxes and was told by main dealers that "if you want that clip (or the arm) you have to buy a complete heater assembly". Madness.

Cheers for that. Good to know I didn't waste too much time on it :) Welding it on seems to be a good solution to me anyway. I think that part of the reason that my old heater box seemed to be a bit crap was that the hot/cold vent cable isn't working from the in-cab lever end. I've just got it set to hot now anyway - the front vents are much better sources of ventilation than having the heater set to blow cold air (as well as the gaps around the doors, under the seats, through the holes in my foot wells etc etc!). I wanted to get the box out so I could do all the foam and stuff anyway, so it was definitely worthwhile :)
