Hi all,

After owning my disco 2 for a month now ive finally got all the little bits working

One thing that has confused me is my windscreen has the heating elements in but has no button inside. There are also two wires either side under the bonnet coming from the windscreen. Is this something that i can sort with just sorting the button or is there more to it??

thanks in advance

Charlie

Hello Chaza

Are the wires under the bonnet connected to anything?

Iirc, A second hand switch can be purchased also check you have the relays and fuses required. You can check if you get a copy of the rave workshop manual and check if you have them fitted.

Then as far as I know it will require switching on using a diagnostics unit.

Also make sure you have your EKA code.

Cheers

There are a couple of answers we might need in order to help.
What year is your Disco?
What sort in heater or air conditioner controls do you have?
The wires in the plenum, on the bottom corners of the windscreen, are they connected to anything other than the windscreen?
Those will do for now.

its 2000
i shall take a picture of the heating controls when ive finished work
well i have followed the wires down yet just thought id test the water and ask to begin with

OK, The reason we asked about the wires is that it's not unheard of for a previous owner to have replaced the original unheated windscreen with a heated one. The switch for the screen heater should be on the small panel of six switches low down on the facia rather than on the binnacle. The front heater switch should be the top right of the six.
As @neilly has said, check if the fuses are in place, there should be two 40 Amp fuses, one for each side.
If everything is in place, switch, fuses and wiring, then you're probably going to need a code reader, Nanocom, Hawkeye or Lynx to check that the circuit is enabled in the BCU.

The reason I asked about the heater/air-con is that the later controller can also have an input to the screen heater circuits, both front and rear.

I was ignored, so i am not playing anymore.....:(:(...he just answers your questions............:(:(.....But I did think they were 40A fuses....LOL....

I always get something wrong, :( but I hold my hands up when I do. You are correct, 40 amp each, fuses 7 and 8 in the engine compartment fuse box. At least my error was on the side of safety. :D

@neilly i do apologize as i saw the latter post first,

i will have to have a look when im done with work
and yeha the heated switch is just blank ill have a look under it later
and as for Nanocom, Hawkeye or Lynx i have none and dont know anyone who has.

thanks for the help gents

You are OK, I have thicker skin than that...............;);)

But it is worth while getting a copy of the rave download if you do not have it already and also ( Sorry @brian47 ) I cannot help myself........make sure you have the EKA code.

As Brian says , check fuses 7 and 8 in the engine bay and also the relay, iirc it is R8.

Cheers

yeh i have saved it ( dont think either work or the mrs would be happy with me printing 1500 pages)

thanks for the help

Where did you get it from?

It is easier and generally better to use it on a computer,as you can use the drop down menus. Did you get the leccy diagrams etc as well?

Cheers

I assume the wires are connected then?

You will still I expect once you have put in a relay need to have it switched on via diagnostics and a switch added. Hav eyou checked you have the wiring in place behind the switch? I would fully expect you have.

Cheers

yeha the wires are on the blank switch plus the wires from the screen its self follow down to the wiring loom in the engine. only problem i have is i dont know anyone with a diagnostic kit

OK,

Well if you get the relay and the switch, then you can search for someone with a diagnostics unit, you may be lucky and it is already set up to work. It is part of the BCU settings.

Cheers
