I was wondering how much a heated windscreen would cost me fitted (I assume the electrics are already there)?

TD4 2006.

We get frosts here for about 3 months of the year and I'd really like a heated screen. If what I've arrowed in this pic shows the car has a heated screen, I recon it will cost about £2K up front, huge petrol bills and probably a dead engine inside 18 months.

Several hundred pounds.
Most of the wiring is there, but you'll need the dedicated fuse box, high current wires and the switch, all of this is on top of the screen cost.

When looking for a Freelander, I only short listed cars that were fitted with the HFS.

Forgotten what it's like to deal with frost etc.

Frost and snow is no trouble with a heated front screen. Start the engine, press the button and wait for a minute.
Mine has a few heater bars not working, but it's still very effective.

I won't buy a car what doesn't have the HFS fitted. It's such a useful addition, it's worth taking the trouble to have.

Knowing my luck I would get into trouble.

Have you phoned some windscreen replacement companies to get an idea of cost?

You can't trick the insurance company to get one fitted as they'll only replace like for like. However they might allow you to have the HFS fitted, if you pay the additional cost.

I see this ad quite often on the bay of flees...

Whether it’s any good or not who knows. I’ve thought about upgrading at some point for in certain lights it looks like the previous owner of my vehicle use sand paper to clean the screen.

So it looks like a couple of hundred quid for the screen, and then you need to add fitting the switch, and relay etc.

I have the switch now for my pre facelift just in case!

That's a good price and well worth taking up, if you happen to be within 35 miles of Leeds.

If your original windscreen gets damage the replacement company would put one in for an extra £300 or so then you would have to do the electrics
