ive just tried the test but got not flashes? tried it on the other seat which works and same thing? am i missing something?

Where the hell did you find this out ?!?!?

lol I take it you went out and tried it !!!

I am 47 and have always been employed in the motor trade

For the last 9 years I have worked for myself repairing cars, diagnostics and freelance MOT testing.

Unlike Main Stealers I have not got an endless supply of parts on the shelf to "try different parts until one of them just happens to work" !

So I do a lot of Googling and digging around whilst looking for possible solutions to a problem a car may be suffering so I can then decide on best method of repair.

As for the seat issue the rear seats were not getting hot in my L322 so off a googling I went

I found an L322 general manual in .pdf format and looking through the trim and seats section I stumbled across the SELF-TEST procedure

I bet most dealers mechanics don't know half of this stuff !

Top man !

Haven't tried it yet lol waiting for the snow to hold off :p

Are they replaceable or is it a new seat jobby ?

In short no, the newer seats in the 2006+ you can replace just an element which comes in a matt form, they are £36 on the bay of Es

If you want to do the 2002 - 2006 then you either have to buy a complete seat, which occasionally come up on ebizle, or you can get just the seat covering, which includes the element within the cover. Bout £150 ish I think, and re cover it yourself

People have repaired the broken element, but not advised as it affects the resistance values of the element and creates hot spots and can set its self on fire apparently

Prior to working for my self I was for 5 years an assistant service manager in a Rover Stealership and then 5 years after that for the same company I was Manager of a Rover VW Audi bodyshop

Sadly I can confirm from my own experience that most Stealerships now only have 1 or maybe 2 Master Technicians and behind them a couple of fitters and thats it - long gone are the days of a team of mechanics who have the foundation knowledge to make them able to analyse a problem and "Fix 1st Time"

just been out to try mine out.

first tried it on the heated steering wheel... funnily enough after doing the sequence the light stayed lit up for longer than usual... but no flashing light diagnostics, infact the light just stayed on constantly and didnt go out, almost like it was working.

but once you start the engine, it soon extinguishes and stops working like before.

tried it on my heated seats too, no flashing light or any lights in fact.. and all of my heated seats work fine.

so something up with this procedure ?

If your heated seats are working I dont think there will be any lights as only 3 options are listed - there is no 4th option to say No Fault Found !

As for the steering wheel it does not list any Self-Test for the heated wheel

i guess if it has no fault ,it doesnt flash? but i have fault and still no flash

are you talking about the seats or steering wheel ?

it must have a fault since it doesn't get hot and the light doesn't stay lit when out of diagnostics mode

oh yea, you were talking about the heated seats not steering wheel.

weird that it makes it light up like normal after doing the procedure though

im sure land rover would have incorporated their brilliant designs into the steering wheel ? lol

What lights do you get if you turn on the heated seats normally (when not attempting self test) ?

when in normal use, press the switch, the switch lights up for a second and then goes out... = no heat.

there must be a fault present and it turns off probably due to a short in the heater windings
