Hi guys I've just renewed the oil cooler pipes on the disco and while I was in the garage I thought I would have a look at the heated screen as it's that time of year again. the problem is I can't find any fuse or relay for it, I have put a live feed to the screen wires and the button light works along with the screen heating but I can not for the life of me find any reference to the fuses etc online ,in the haynes manual or the magic search on here.
Any ideas will be greatly received.

Hmmm, see what you mean, Just the rear heated screen fuse in that box. Cant find anything either. Unless its the same fuse?

Relay is in the pass kick panel if that helps

That's a start lol, can you point me to which relay it is because all mine have been taken off the holder.and there seems to be no order to them, I can't even find the purple/grey wire that comes in from the bonnet on either side of the windscreen.

Pop your rear screen fuse out see if its fed via that.

Although there are some fuses in the main fuse box labeled with what i can only guess is a user manual. I thought it could be one of those as all Discos didnt have the heated screeen iirc but they are all 10amp. Cant be enough for a heated screen surely?

The rear screen works so it can't be linked to that fuse unless it is a faulty relay, so that will be the first job in the morning. I find it amazing that I can't find any reference to it anywhere.

First question, does it even have a heated screen in it?

A lot if people would not replace them as retail price is about 400 quid.

Next, the screen takes 2x 30 amp fuses. That's 30 amps for each side!!

The wires come out of the screen behind the dashboard on the inside, I assume they dont pass through the bulkhead so would be inside somewhere.

Mine has black and purple iirc.

Yes to the heated screen, and 2 x 30amps sound very plausible as I have read that the screen is split in two and the wires are in what I know as the scuttle the o/s wires joint the bulk of engine bay wires then go through the baulkhead to under the dash. Do you have any idea where these two fuses would be because they are not listed in either fuse box, could I have a third fuse box somewhere?

The whole system is fitted as an auxiliary loom, so the fuses and relays will be standalone.

That said, they must have a substantial power supply somewhere.

Find out where the main power comes into the cabin and search from there.

Tis much easier on a 200 cos they only have one bulkhead fitting for all interior power, but they don't have heated screens (I fitted my own) and our 300 doesn't have one.

Discool must be the man to answer this one!

Thanks Mr Noisy :p

I'm in the the dark as most of the other owners are on heated screens, but according to my books it's a single relay, the standard AMR3773, the position of the relay is behind or at the side of the glove box so have a look at the relay bracket position No.5 at the end with a black socket, the 7 mins or so timing is taken care of by the multi-function unit and the single fuse (although on a D1 you have two elements they are connected as one L & R) is in the main fuse box in a spare position that doesen't have a label, it may not be in the row with the other fuses.
All that is based on a 300 series that had the heated screen fitted as standard.
I'll have a look see at my fuse board later today and see if what i've said on the fuse is true. :)

I have a heated front screen, It clears 2 thin lines on the passenger side and 1 thin line on the drivers side....

I guess given that is working of a fashion, the only cure is a new windscreen itself !

Cheers

Mike

Yep, fitted a brand new screen myself, 1 year later it all works apart from a 3" band slap bang in front of my eyes. Marvellous

They don't last very long I'm afraid ... :(

Had a look and I fpund five fuses that are not on the list, 3 x 10amp a 15amp and a 20 amp which may or not be for the screen as the rear screen plus the heated mirrors fuse is a 30amp.

I have that also, all due to a small stone chip on the glass, it's not a problem as my heater clears the frost from the glass quicker than the heated screen. Although a heated screen is handy with snow/ice covering the screen :)
