Did the K16 1.8 FL come out with a heat shield fitted to the exhaust manifold? Mines the earlier motor with the MEM 1.8 - oxygen sensor on the back of the exhaust manifold.

surely the heatshield protects the plastic end of the alternater from getting cooked, as the manifold will glow red when worked hard .

Okay rejuvenating an old thread. Exhaust manifold heat shield on a K series 1.8. I was looking under the bonnet checking the fluids, as any paranoid K series owner would do  and noticed that the cabling to the back of the alternator is looking cooked, even a bit charred! I've wrapped insulation tape around the effected sections. I'm planning to fit a heat shield and have been looking around for a heat shield off a Rover 25/200 or an MG F...
Without one there is good ventilation and cool air coming though the radiator etc.

My question is will adding a heat shield cause any problems? EG increased heat retention around that exhaust manifold?

OR am I better to phaff about and use the fibreglass exhaust wrap and put that on each pipe on the manifold?
