I was woken up at 2am this morning with my little Chihuahua barking like a nutter. I took a look out of the bedroom window which conveniently looks over the gardens to our drive and I could see a vehicles lights shining across from outside the property. I watched through the window for a good few minutes before putting my boots on and grabbing a torch. I stood in our garden staring at them for ages (they couldn't see me it was so dark) and it was only when I climbed over our fence and approached the van that they drove off. We live in the middle of nowhere and there's no reason for anyone to be stopped there. I couldn't get the registration number as I forgot my glasses in the rush to get out there but it looked like a silver or white small van.

I just thought i'd warn anyone living in the Gwent / Monmouthshire (Abergavenny) areas that they could be scoping out your Defender so stay alert. You're not paranoid if they're really after your Defender!

More nasty than our old Rottie was I tell you, she's a vicious little **** when she gets started. My Terrier slept through it all.

Woke up again last night at 4.30am to the dogs barking, looked out of the bedroom window and saw a torch light shining up my drive onto the Discovery and Defender. By the time i'd got downstairs and outside there was no one about except the noise of a car in the distance. I fear it won't be long before a proper attempt is made to steal it. I think they're just eyeing it up for now. A farmer friend of ours 3 miles away had a Defender, two Isuzu's and a brand new quad stolen a few months ago. This is getting ridiculous, if I catch anyone out there they'll have my baseball bat to contend with, b******s to the consequences!

The quad thefts in your area are the bigger concern I would imagine... most of me inlaws are between Abergavenny and Llandovery (all areas in between really), and they're plagued by quad thefts (they're nearly all farmers). As a lot of them live down small lanes with only a couple of very spread out farms on them, one of them was able to ring a neighour (a mile or so away) and get them to block the road to stop the thieves! Brilliant!

The police told them that it's mostly merthyr boys and the like.

I just had a phone call from the local gendarmes asking me if anything else has happened. Being a farming town, Land Rovers are very popular and the officer said 'we are more than aware of the thefts of these vehicles around the country and are trying to build up a picture of suspicious activity in the local area regarding these vehicles'. I asked her what was my position if someone was on my drive stealing my car and she said i'm not allowed to touch them UNLESS I am physically in danger. Physically in danger? There's plenty of old mine shafts around this area to ditch a body and they'd never be found!

If I can't beat someone to death legally who's stealing the wife's 90 then i'll have to dispose of the body lol. There are also many peat bogs here to swallow up a corpse. If anyone has a body to dispose of i'm available for a reasonable rate lol.
