car has not been used for some time. I decided to get it ready for mot when I started it the headlights came on if I switch the lights to side lights the heads go out but if I switch them off the heads come back on till I turn engine off .thay dont come on with ingnition only when engine is running. any ideas please

I think that we've had this before and the concensus was that there are regional requirements for the headlights to operate as day running lights. These are set in the BECM. So, it's possible that your BECM is confused. This can be caused by low voltage so disconnecting the battery and either recharging it or replacing it is worth a try. Otherwise you might need some diagnostics.
Before disconnecting make sure of radio code, EKA code and sat-nav if fitted.

This may be completely coincidental, but I have precisely this on a Renault Clio - the "fault" has gone on and off a few times, but has been on for a year and a half now.
Just thinking maybe it's an electrical gremlin rather than a computer issue?

had this happen on a 96 hse,the wiring loom was corroded under the drivers side cill from bcm(under pastic cover) all the way upto drivers kick panel, replaced it and all was good

thanks lads for the advice, I have now sorted the lights, I conected my nanocom and fond that somehow daytime driving had been activated so deativated now fine. But now got a more serious problem car starts and runs fine till it gets hot then will not rev and misfires, no faults showing on diognostics and nothing looks wrong.

How hot does your FIP pump get?
I have a problem with hot starting after the engine has been working hard ie going up hill .on the way down sometimes the engine will stall and then I have to wait half an hour before it will start again The engine temperature is normal but the injector pump feels very hot and i was wondering if the fuel was vapourising in it and not being able to inject.
I do not have time to sort this problem as i am travelling and it usually happens after about 3 hr running.

Check the EDC engine temperature readings and the FIP fuel temperature readings on live data. Also check the in tank pump is working well and that the fuel filter is not contaminated.
