I tried HIDs once, I also asked a question in here about them and got similar comments to these, I found them a pain and also didn't like it with the yellow main beam, in the end I ripped them off and fitted 2 6" wipac spots... Much better!!

I fitted the HIDs to mine, and whilst they are great on the very dark country lane that I live on, I am taking them back out this weekend.

I found that the light produced is all over the place, it seems that headlights designed to work with HID bulbs require a lens to focus the beam correctly.

I had to adjust my headlights to lower the beam as it was far too high and a menace to other drivers. The knock on of this was that the main beam was then too low.

Going to find some good white halogens this weekend and re-align the headlights as they should be.

I wouldn't advise anyone to pursue the HID conversion of existing P38 headlights.

Doing the conversion with L322 units will probably work as they will be designed with a focussing lens no doubt - I won't be doing that either, by the sounds of it the conversion is simpler if you just buy an L322 to replace your P38 - I like my P38!

Get your self to Lidl they have H4 and H7 50 % brighter bulbs for £5 a pair, change mine a while back and think the lights are very good.

Yellow main beam? Sounds like your main and dipped lives were swapped on your HID kit.

Just found this and have to admit I took them off about a week after posting didn’t see the vitriol from some highly respected members. My head is hanging in shame and to compound matters I’ve just posted about upgrading headlights on my disco 4 maybe I should delete?
Hope everyone had a great Christmas xx

Washing your headlights regularly makes a lot of difference. The stock headlights are great. The reversing lights not so much!
