Hey all,

I seem to have some kind of wandering issue with the headlight on my newly purchased L322.
Appreciate any and all help on where/how to begin looking into this particular gremling.

While I haven't maintaned an exact protocol I would say that a little more than half the time using the car it displays the message 'Check dip beam light'. When it does the dipped beam on the left-hand side doesen't light up. This didn't really seem much of an issue at first, as I would just try to do the ol' switcheroo with the right-hand side. It sounds a bit like the ballast have gone, after all.
Then when I drove it during christmas and got a 'check side light' when I started up. Went out and checked, but everything (including the dipped beam) was lighting up. On the way home (while driving) I got a 'check front light'. Didn't have the chance to stop and see if there was an actual issue or not.
When I arrived home everything on the actual car seemed fine. I also didn't get any error messages when I switched the ignition off.

I also have another issue with the bonnet release cable - which means I can't get it open. It's on order, so I won't be opening it until this arrives. Figured I could ask around a bit here so that I'm well prepared when it does arrive.

My plan of action is to check all the connections for any corrosion.
...and clean them off even if there is nothing super obvious.
Next I will also try switching the ballast around as there does seem to be an actual issue with this.

Any other hints on how to go about it?

Have the headlights been replace with a later model?
Maybe a bad connection. This was what greeted me when I bought mine

Re bonnet release cable. They usually go at the connection to the handle.

If you take the metal plate off and pull the rubber trim away you can remove the plastic trim over the bonnet release. Once removed you can get a pair of pliers on the cable at the back of the lever.

Someone may have replaced the bulbs with non canbus error type. Bonnet release cable is a common failure. Good luck
Yeah, could be.
They don't really look to be 'aftermarket' in the sense that they have that clear blue/white light. Seems original by just looking at it from the outside.

And yes, Google helped me along figuring that out. I managed to write 'L322 bo...' before it completed the query to ' L322 bonnet release cable'. Figured it would be quite common. :)

In regards to your photo... Ooof. Nice!

I actually have a stump of the cable, but no matter how I pull I can't seem to get the bonnet open.
It's unlocked itself at the point to the left (LHD, so that's the one closest to the handle in the footwell)

Water ingress affecting the LCM?

I googled.
I'm guessing it's not Least Common Multiple? ;)
...so - Light Control Module. I will try to hunt it down and check to see if there's any damp.
 
Yes, as you're sitting in the car the lcm will be on the right hand side behind the a pillar trim panel and up a bit. Check your front carpets, any sign of them being damp probably means sunroof drains are blocked and the water will flow directly over the lcm.
Had to repair mine on my 06 for that reason.
 
No signs of damp (other than the car not being fitted with rubber mats at the moment) anywhere.
I honestly figured there would be. But I checked the drains at the sunroof and they were all clean, and drained the way they should. I did manage to set the sunroof correctly while at it, though.
It didn't quite line-up in the back earlier, but now it does.

These last couple of days driving the lights also haven't acted up.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it just repaired itself.
All kidding aside - I don't think it was driven that much in the months prior to me buying it, so might be that there's just been a little corrosion that's lightened with currents flowing again.
...or something to that effect. ;)

Damp has dried out more likely. Keep the aircon on to dry it out.

This last week or so it's been functioning nicely when negative centigrade and dry, but has been acting up when it's been around zero and snow/rain.

I had it MOT'd just this morning.
Quite comically everything worked super through the testing and it got the all-clear. As soon as I placed myself in the driver's seat to drive it out of the testing location it went *BING* followed by 'Check side light'.

I'll try to get my hands on a functioning LCM as soon as possible and check further for any obvious damp.
