Hey, hope you can help!

Changing my headlights from sealed beam to halogen. Seamed beam connects via bullet connectors from the unit, halogen connects to back of bulb and obviously wont take bullets. Is it just a case of changing bullets to spades or is there a connector out there that makes life easier???

bullet connectors ? have you taken the sealed beam unit out yet ? as it sould be standard H4 bulb conectors .

I would get some bullet connectors, some female spade connectors, shrink wrap and the propper wire (colour and amperage) and make up a small loom to convert. Not hard would take about ten minutes and not cost alot. JMHO
 
why?
that just increases the number of connections - more chance of corrosion and problems, however, as Sypher said, the unit should be push terminals.

I havent taken out the lamps yet (weather is pish) The wire coming out of the sealed units if my memory serves me right is fixed to the beam unit and is definetly connected to the main wiring by bullets, so these wouldnt connect to a standard H4 bulb
 
I've fittted H4 Halogen conversion to the 90 & it was a straight swap??
 
Unless someone who had it before me made a dogs ass of it redhand and changed everything about! In your conversion was it just a case of detaching the sealed unit and reattach to halogen? Nothing special?
 
mines an 1987 90 had the sealed units then i changed them with halo halogen units was just a plug in jobby for me easy!

Yep sealed unit has three prongs sticking out of it just like an H4 bulb/
 
Jatlad, thanks.. I cna see from trusty Haynes manual you have teh wiring connector that plugs straight in... For some reason mine doesnt have that, looks like female connectors for me

Appreciate everyones help

Jetlad, thanks.. Just looked up Haynes,you have the wiring connector, for some reason I dont have that... female connectors it is.. thanks for you advice folks
 
He hasn't yet reached the sealed-beam unit.
When he does he will find the three wires are PLUG ON to the sealed beam unit, and the same plug (it's really a socket) will fit the replacement unit bulb base perfectly.

Lucas may be stupid, but they got this right.

Pity about all those bullet connectors though. Tin-plated steel - and they RUST.

Did you try pulling it off the sealed beam unit? Think about it, every time you need to change your sealed beam you would need to get in at the back of the wing??

Unless someone has put the old british bayonet style socket (in which case twist and pull) or at some point has soldered the wires on as a lazy or temp fix then you will find that you have a moulded connector with the 3 female spade connectors in it which line up with all the male spades on the lamp. This wire goes from the inside of the headlight bucket to the bullets connectors behind it in the wing.

Is it possible his car has "lost" the plastic plug-on socket, and is wired with three spades directly onto the three blades of the lamp unit?
