Morning Chaps,

Cant figure this one out, Its a 200TDi 1993(August)

Using the side controll stick the side lights will turn on but the main running lights will not, when you puish the stick forward the high beam will not BUT when you pull the stick back the high beam does actually work.

I think it could be the actuall stick itself. Any thoughts would be greatly recieved.

Cheers
Steve

Check the wires going into the connector on the back of the headlight. My guess is you will need a new connector and they cost about £3 from Halfords.

Hi Steve, sounds to me like you need a new light switch:

STC865 | Master Lighting, Indicator, Headlamp Dip Switch - from HA000001 to LA081991

I had a similar problem, the connections block at the headlight had melted, found a porcelain replacement on eBay, think it was about £8 for 2. Solved problem and future recurrences :)

Had the same trouble , I took the couling off and worked the stalk to find the gap between the cotacts to big, just bent them back abit and now all works ok . Hope it helps

Cheers for all your help chaps. Turns out it was a soldered joint just below the stick it self had come off with age probaly.

Cheers again.

Where was the bad connection. I have exactly the same fault and have replaced the lighting stalk, which fixed the hazard warning switch (different problem) but not the headlights, that do what your did. Checked the voltage at the fuse and getting about 4 volts but it varies depending if you remove one bulb or not. Would have said it was a faulty relay if the Disco 1 had a lighting relay. But may be a bad joint just cannot work out where.
