extremely easy if it's a 200 or very easy if it's a 300 check if the head is damaged and if not just clean it using fine sand paper/ wet n dry on a surface plate just tape paper to surface plate and work in figure of 8 so you wont get any low spots on the head. a decent hire shop will have a surface plate. Can anybody tell me how easy or hard it is to do a head gasket on a disco 2.5 tdi. i have a basic knowledge of engines and dont want to pay the cost of a garage doing the job.
what makes you think yours needs doing ?
for a slightly different engine but will give you the gist of what's required

Unplug the stop solenoid and whirl it over on the starter for 20 sec or so, to get the oil circulating.
TDi's usually start OK without purging the fuel system after that - there might be an initial puff of smoke though.
where is the stop selonoid
in the middle of the off-side of yer injun is the injector pump. It has a single wire connected to it - that's yer stop solenoid (my 200 has a white wire - not sure about 300's).
Which?so could it harm the engine if i dont do this
