Hello! First time posting on here so please be gentle..;)
I have an '82 ex mod 109 petrol 2.25 (LPG conversion) which I aquired a month ago and have done 1500miles in it since. Yesterday I found the horrible mayonnaise like stuff under the oil filler which means that water is mixing with the oil, suggesting the head gasket has blown. But it has lost NO water from the cooling system since I bought it & the temperature is perfectly normal at all times. There's white smoke when I start the engine but that clears up after a minute or so.
Is there any other way I could be getting water into the engine? Or is there any other reason I could be getting the 'mayonnaise' under the filler cap? I'm a bit confused. Anyone got any suggestions?
Also..whats the best way of getting the slime out?!
Any help would be much appreciated.

maybe it had a blown gasket, but the last owner fixed it. I would change oil and filter and drive it for a few hours, then repeat three or four times to get it good and cleaned out.

some times ,short journeys ,wont allow the engine to warm properly ,speshialy on a series,(big rad and cool running engine).mine has a 2.5 trannie diesel,(standard series 3 rad)and has a 5 mile run to work and just about gets warm, might be worth having a test done on the coolant tho,a garage can do a test to show wether you have hydrocarbons present in the coolant water, might be worth a try ????

possible condensation, esp if you dont do any miles to speak of.
worst possible thing to do to an engine is never let it get hot.
some if the worst condition low miles injuns ive ever seen were low mileage ones that never went further than asda.

is the oil level still correct? it could rise if external water is getting into the oil.
an oil change might be telling?

It has lost oil but nothing thats out of the ordinary for a series. I'll change the oil a few times to get the crap out and see what happens. Cheers for the suggestions :)

Check for Mayo on the dip stick.
If you have moyo here then you have got a problem.
If you have moyo on the sump filler cap then thats not unusual
Do a oil change and drain it in to a clear container and have a look for water / mayo.

run a compression check on the engine. If the gaskets blown you will see it straight away with the results.

you can pick up the kit from scewfix for not alot and can saves hours of headscratching

take it out, find a field, whack it in low box and give it a good thrashin.. see if it burns all the ****e out OR NOT.. if not ... DRAMAS !!!

Had the same problem with mine and the issue was just down to short Journeys (as described above):

1.Take the filler cap off and give it a good clean - replace.
2. Take your landie out for a good hard run (I'd say for at least an hour).
3. Check filler cap after run for white smeg.
4. No smeg = no problems=take a longer run to work=more fun.
5. White smeg = yer fecked=pain in the arse gasket change.

Chances are you've nowt to worry about
