So, I just recently replaced the instrument surround, and the fuel gauge. I must have done something wrong as the temperature gauge no longer works and the fuel gauge still does not.
Anyways, the same day the I did the job and the gauge stopped working, my truck started driving pretty rough and I could smell a little bit of coolant. Looked up underneath, and there certainly was a leak. Not a major leak, but still there. Then a few days ago it started spitting white smoke from the exhaust.
I searched around the engine to make sure, and found a couple of other issues. Overflow resevoir was stopped up, and a hose had a major hole in it. Fixed that, but obviously the truck will still have white exhaust.
So, without a doubt it's a bad head gasket, and the locals will charge a minimum of approximately $1200, parts supplied. Well, that's a bit much, and I don't really trust the locals. I know, sounds rude, but you'd have to live here to understand.
Now, I do have the Land Rover 110 WSM, but there's nothing straight forward about a head gasket change.
Could I do a job like this? How do I go about it? And, what tools do I need to complete it?
LR Series has the genuine gasket at about $35. I've already learned my lesson about Britpart.
Cheers in advance!
