Big Thank You to all your help soo far. To let you know I have ordered a Reisse Head Gasket set, I have also Ordered a new Water Pump, I will re-use the cambelt kit as it was done 550 miles ago, I have also ordered an Oil Stone, Flushing Oil and 2 Oil Filters, and am now hunting for 2 NEW Heater Matrix Pipes which are proving very hard to find. And my poor little brain is taking lots of abuse and is hurting now lol. I have spent so far £219.99 on the above parts and the cost also includes the replacement head at £85. Just got to add the pipes to the cost. My Mum has leant me the money for the parts. But am now almost back to nothing left.

But a huge Thank you to everyone. I am determined to get my Freelander back on the road properly again.
 
No oil stone (not guaranteed flat), just good quality files, a ground-hardened block and engineers blue. There are other methods too which the Toolmakers amongst you will know as most will have had to re-dress surface tables in their apprenticeships! :)

in all fairness it really doesn't need to be mirror flat, so an oil stone or James bearing scraper is fine.

MHM is right, the 1.8 Freelander is a poor choice for someone with no time or not enough money to do the essential work that will need doing to one. There is now no K series engine young enough for this not to be the case.

The K series is best suited to enthusiasts who are able to bear the pain, the grief, the agony and upset for that brief brief moment when everything works and you're on a nice road. Ok I nicked that from Jezza on Alfa's but it fits!
