Right having purchased my Disco 2 it needs a service, as the whole point of land rover ownership for me was meant to be more of a hobby and not just a car I am going to do it myself.

Let's just put this into context, the only things I have worked on before have had 2 wheels and where a lot smaller than this beast.

I should have what I need:

Engine oil 10L
Transmission oil
Another oil (mtf94 I think)
Filter kit including fuel filter
Replacement anti roll bar bushes
Replacement bump stops (the current ones are not stopping anything the state they are in)
Rocker cover gasket (it's a bit weepy so is being replaced)
Engine flush
Hammerite (to sort out under the bump stops)
Tools
Knowledge and experience....blind hope and optimism will have to do

Here goes nothing.

Engine oil 10L - 5-30 semi synth to B3 or B5 standard.

Transmission oil
Another oil (mtf94 I think) - this is the correct oil for the main gearbox and you'll need 3 ltrs

You'll also need 6 ltrs of EP 75-90 oil for the transfer box and both front and rear diffs.

Filter kit including fuel filter - a full filter kit has 4 filters in it. Air, fuel and 2 oil filters. Available from Paddockspares.com

Replacement anti roll bar bushes

Replacement bump stops (the current ones are not stopping anything the state they are in)
Rocker cover gasket (it's a bit weepy so is being replaced)
Engine flush
Hammerite (to sort out under the bump stops)
Tools
Knowledge and experience....blind hope and optimism will have to do

Thanks for that. The kit did have 4 filters, I had already done the air filter.

I have hit a problem, I could not get the sump plug out, problem was one of tools.

The 17mm half inch socket I have is wide to fit in the recess around the sump plug, the quarter inch fits perfectly but the breaker bar I have is half inch and I can't budge the sump plug with the small breaker or ratchet.

So I need to get a large quarter inch breaker, but I can't drive the car as I have put the engine flush in.

Oh well lessen learnt for next time.
 
for the rocker cover, the gasket is not enough if it's leaking, get 13 x ERR7266 sealing grommets too, get extended bumps stop from the beginning.... and dont put more than 7.2l oil in the engine

I have hit a problem, I could not get the sump plug out, problem was one of tools.

Can you slip a bit of pipe or similar over the small breaker bar to give more leverage? These garage clowns that insist on doing everything up super tight eh? I have often used one of the bars that comes with the jack.

Oh well lessen learnt for next time.

Success! First oil change done, both filters. Lessons learnt for next time, like put the front on wooden blocks to get a bit more height to work with, even this time I put axle stands under the chassis at the rear on the off chance the air suspension chose that moment to give out.

Next up fuel filter, just need tm get some fuel to fill the filter with first, at least it is easy to get to.

Then all the other oils.
 
You could use the fuel out the old filter, but could be mucky! I always keep a can of Diesel around anyway.
5 min job, easy peasy.

Front and rear diffs have a horrible plastic filler plug. Make sure it comes out before draining! Can get damaged easily, so top tip is change for a brass one (radiator bleed plug fits?!) off ebay etc
 
Top tip is to always undo filler plug on anything before touching the drain plug, it's a pain when everything has drained out and you can't get the new stuff in.
