I know it has been posted hundreds of times before (believe me i've read through all of them) and tried some of the suggested quick fixes but so far to no avail.

During the bulb checks the green HDC light comes on but no amber, then after that there is no sign of anything. Nothing happens when the switch is engaged, i've had the cables re-soldered and checked that there is a current running through them. So my next stop is to take it to a specialist and fork out £50 for diagnostics.

I cant make it in to the garage until next week and so though that in the meantime I may as well post this and see if there's anything more that I could do to try and fix the problem myself? A mate of mine said that there could be a problem with a switch in the gearbox?

Any help much appreciated!

Cheers

When the HDC is engaged the light should flash if it's not in first or reverse.

Have you joined the two wires together going to the hdc switch to determine if the switch is faulty?

I've tested the switch and it's fine. The HDC light doesn't come on at all regardless of gear choice, nor does it actually physically work so I assume that the problem must be elsewhere, but I have no idea where to look

Mine was like this when I first bought it....turned out the bulb for the yellow HDC had been removed out of the dash.

I put one in and bingo it stayed on constantly until I had it reset.

Same as Brack, some ape had levered the three amigos plus the handbrake LEDs out of my dash. Was a bugger to resolder.

Tried finding how to remove the dash but aren't having much luck, even the haynes manual says if one of the bulbs is gone the whole thing needs replacing, any tips?

From memory.

4 screws under the black switch surround, remove and unplug the switches.
2 screws left and right of instruments, remove and lift off top of instrument cowl
2 screws below instruments holding them to the dash, remove, lift up and unplug
Take instruments somewhere warm

If I remember rightly the plexi in front of the guages is held in by tangs all around, prise that off and I think you can then remove the legend.

Have a look under there and see if there is an LED (a surface mount one) in the HDC hole. You might be lucky and a previous owner might have just taped over it to mask the blinking...

It's all fairly obvious once you start taking it apart.
