I've just had a new gearbox fitted in so I'm wondering if the mechanic has not plugged something in maybe it will show on a obd reader

Flashing green means the system is ready. I would guess that the first gear switch isn't connected. The system is still ready, because it doesn't know that first has been engaged

With the car in neutral, what lights up when you engage the HDC switch?

It should then change when you put it into 1st or reverse. If it doesn't the relevant switch on the gearbox (if the TD4 is the same as the PG1) is faulty.

yes it just flashes like its ready then I pop it in Reverse and the green light is solid on, I then pop it in 1st and it just flashes where will I find the switch that needs connecting ?
