Hi all,

Wonder if you can help, a couple of times i have had a warning bleep and information warning come on the dash. " HDC inactive and air suspension inactive" I also get the ABS warning light stay on. if i turn the ignition off and re start then it can be OK for a few weeks and the same happens........

Any thoughts?????

In respect of the display message 'HDC inactive'. I have and still do occasionally get the same message. I took the vehicle to a Land Rover dealer and was informed it was a common problem particularly when the vehicle is started from cold and more so during cold weather. The dealers have it registered as a bulletin repair and are able to provide a remedial fix, however it's a case of the display message being present when you take it to the dealer!!!!!

Typical signs of low battery voltage on start up,LM RR's are even more fussy than the old LP's,(P38's) in this respect.

yep eightinavee is right, charge the battery overnight. anything below 11ish volts will cause you problems.

Re Battery Voltage: Amazin' how sensitive this little freakers are re their computers & the input voltage...........plus you will notice that the battery is run down progressively in colder weather to where you have got to boost the thing about weekly. Has anyone explored the posible alternative of simply slotting in a higher amperage alternator, or does that fry their sensitive wee innards?

Thanks for the responce chaps!

Both times this has happened i have been an hour into a journey on the motorway. Battery is new and charges normally..................????????

Remember, it's a computer, just like the one your using to read this, so the first course of action is reboot. (Ignition off, then restart)
Occasional, although usually when the immobiliser on the Discovery 2 played up. you even needed to get out an lock then unlock the doors!

If all is in place,a checkout on Testbook to read the codes is all you can do.

I did that... Brought it to a land rover service shop when the air suspension failed last month... Told them about this issue as well, they said they cleared the codes and replaced some parts... Yet it still does this. I'd bring it back again, but they told me since everything checked out on my last visit I'd need to bring it in while it's displaying the trouble code. I was hoping someone here possibly had an idea as to the source of this issue.

Trouble is there are hundreds of possibilities, the garage needs to see the car when it faults or they they have little info to work with. Some places just use the "parts shotgun" which usually, eventually fixes the problem but is a very expensive way to repair. If the car is faulting on a regular basis the best thing to do is to let them use it till it faults then see from live data on Testbook what is not correct - it might not even be anything to do with the EAS or ABS/HDC/TC systems,as they rely on other systems for input.
Listing what has gone wrong with other cars is not much help.

had the same problem but only after 20"alloys fitted and re tracked, problem is caused by steering column sensor being (basically it tells the abs and traction control what direction the wheels are facing) sensor position cannot be reset, sensor has to be removed then refitted and setup on LR computer as if it was a new part
hope this helps

hi there mine did this and it was the start of the suspension pump begining to pack up.quick easy fix cost £100 and 5 mins of my time to fix, just thought i would let you know warren

Hi guys, colin iow, new member as of ystrdy, same problem with my car, started with ABS inactive, then HDC followed by AIR SUSPENSION and now it says TRANS, FAILSAFE PROG! car runs normal and suspension works but my brake lights are on as soon as i turn the key,new battery to match car 3wks ago, if anyone could shed any light on this i would be most grateful,

i have a 04 l322 and had the Hdc inactive flashing upand also i had the suspension inactive come up
the suspension was to do with the garage not jacking the car up properly and so the suspension shut down, i took it to a Range rover tech and he cleared the lot it all started working fine , them yesterday the Hdc inactive come back again??? i have been told the Batteries are to small for the car??
i would take it to someone who can clear the faults and see if it has a problem

cheers Steveh, had new battery from lucas in october which was listed for the car but had new steerin column fitted 3wks ago by main dealer who said battery to small, now fitted one twice the size from partco list, will put it on charge tonight anyway, not over concerned about dash info but the brake lights stayin on, 8-(

this seems to be a easy fix guys you'll get this problem more when the weather is cold and your trying to start the car, it takes more duce out the battery so the fault keeps showing. change the battery to a bigger one

Is anyone familiar with this problem?

After a big snow storm recently, my 2005 L322 brake system started to act up. After driving a few miles during the snow storm the dash lights would all light up, the brakes lock up and basically the car slows down to a complete stop. The brakes completely lock up!!! After about 5+ minutes of the car being shut off, I would start it, and it ran like nothing ever happened. I brought the car the my mechanic, the next day, who changed a ABS pressure sensor, that didn't work. A few days later the same thing happened. Brought it to a Land rover mechanic, he changed the left caliper (which he said was seizing), and all 4 break pads. A few days later same problem, again. Brought it back to the LR guy who said their were no codes coming up, and after road testing it he told me there was nothing happening out of the ordinary. The problem often seems to happen bad/wet weather and conveniently when I'm not by the mechanics shop.

Another tech suggested I try replacing ABS unit and/or the Master cylinder. At this rate I'll end up replacing all the brake system parts and I'll be no closer to finding the problem then when It first appeared.

Does anyone have any idea whats causing the problem and how to fix it???
