Could anyone give me a location of the Blacksheep workshop
Unfortunately my jacking point collapsed the other week so I think there is sufficient rust to warrant replacement.
Just need to work out how far the trip is etc.

PS I have looked through the website for an address, but I could have been a tit and gone straight past it

His workshop is on the glorious Isle of Canvey,

So I went down to Clive (pressbrake) on Thursday to get myself a new x-member fitted.
Arrived just before 9am with the floor mostly popped out.
Cracked on and in short all went as planned.
I helped with remedial tasks like holding a spanner on the other side of inaccessible bolts etc but otherwise Clive very much did it all himself (with a bad back as well)

The old x-member came off without any problems and on closer inspection (light tapping with a hammer) was close to disintegrating on the rear face.

The chassis however was in very good nick (made me super happy)
So no extra chassis had to be cut back to get good metal.

New x-member was offered up and fit like a dream.
Then he custom manufactured the new brackets to link the x-member and chassis
Welded it all back together
Coated in appropriate paint, wurth waxoil, gunk etc etc and then slammed the tank and floor back in and all was done.
(I've missed out loads of steps like cleaning up chassis and prep but there was nothing that was very out of the ordinary to comment on)

I'm very much confirming what others have said before me but firstly the cross member he manufactures is first rate. Folded and welded together out of 6mm Steel with no pockets for water to become trapped in and then coated in a zinc rich black oxide paint
His welds are top notch and just as good as any full time welder, it's especially impressive considering the tight space the welds are done in due to how the chassis and x-member come together.

Thanks a lot Clive
Now hopefully won't have to do anything with the chassis for a while (at least not with this Defender)

Will

PS Did I leave a drill at yours??

Yes found your drill down the side of the welder,I was just as pleased about you chassis as you!

Price for a TD5 cross member fitted, guess it will mean me stripping out everything in the back and taking out the rear floor, when you get a minute thanks.
