Can anyone shed some light (it is an MOT failure point, I'm told)?

Hazzard warning lights and dash rocker switch work as intended, but instrument tell-tale/idiot light doesn't illuminate. However, instrument tell-tale/idiot light operates perfectly when indicators are used... yet hazards and indicators share a COMMON tell-tale! How come!

Any suggestions... I'm starting to think I've lost the plot!

On mine, the indicator warning light is connected across the left and right indicators. So it will flash when you indicate one way or the other (earthing via the unused indicators) but not when the hazards are on. In this case, the trailer indicator light will flash instead (due to the extra load on the flash relay.) There should be a rather pointless bulb in the hazard switch itself that will flash too.

As above, does the trailer light flash once when you turn the indicator on (that will prove the bulb). Also does it have LED indicators? If so it may have an adjustable relay unit (with a knob on the top), the knob adjusts the sensitivity for the trailer light. If you have one turn it all one way so the trailer light flashes when the indicators are on then turn the knob down to where the trailer light flashing just stops.

Thanks for the pointers.

So, if I'm reading this correctly - when the hazzard switch is on, the TRAILER tell-tale should flash (and not the indicator tell-tale)?

Just checked and the trailer tell-tale light doesn't flash once when the indicators are used and as before, there's nothing when the hazzards are used, so I'm guessing a possible issue with the trailer tell-tale bulb. There is a rather odd looking bulb floating about behind the dash that illuminates VERY dimly and once only when the hazzard switch is clicked on and off, but remains unlit otherwise - not sure what this is, or of its purpose!?

No LED kit on mine, it's an older '85 model.

Yes trailer bulb works as hazard tell tale light. Might be worth a quick check of the bulb first - you never know! As for the 'odd bulb' what colour wires are going to it, does it look like standard wiring or has someone bodged it?

Thanks again for the guidance Kwakerman.

I managed to get the trailer light operating (as a hazzard tell-tale), after much cutting, splicing and tidying-up of the rats nest of wires sat behind the speedo. The 'odd bulb' looks as if it could be a dash/dial illumination light, but that's not working either, so I'll likely strip the lot out shortly and sort from scratch.

Getting there now... slowly!

Depending on model you'll have to reference the live from the hazard switch.
200TDI especially loops from the female connector of the switch to the spade connector located on the side of the switch,
This also if I'm correct would be the tell-tale live to the dash but if in wiring diagram loops to on switch indicates the switch contains a bulb.
Which can be changed even though Land Rover don't recognise it as a serviceable item.
