Hi, my hazard switch don't flash, so its an mot failute.
I thought it was the switch and got a new one but that is doing the same.
Has anyone else had this?
And the next part of my question does anyone have. Or know where I can get a wiring diagram for a 1985 defender 90 2.5NA diesel.

Cheers advance
Mick

Do you mean the 4-way hazzards themselves aren't working or just the warning light on the switch?
The bulb inside the hazzard switch is replacable so there was no need to buy a new switch (I had to do mine last year). If it is the 4-way indicators themselves not working I suggest the relay.

Wiring diagrams are in the Haynes and also as a fold out in the back of the owners handbook (still available new), if you don't have either of these to hand (which I guess you don't) then I am sure someone will be along soon to post a link to an on-line copy.

Cheers,
The hazards work fine, its just the bulb in the switch that don't flash and the switch looked like a sealed unit, but I could be wrong, anyway the new switch is the same. So that would point to an electrical fault in the wiring

Check the hazard relay is the correct one. It needs to have 5 connectors as the extra middle pin is for the warning light.

I also have this problem and need to get it through the MOT, the hazard switch activates the indicators ok but teltale is not illuminated.
The flasher unit has only 4 terminals not 5 but there is no wire in the center connector block so even if there was a 5th connector it wouldnt work.
Any advice welcome.

Is it not ok if it's audible? Mines never worked in four years but it's always passed but you can hear the relay clicking?

One of the two side wires was connected (black and red) but cant find the black earth wire anywhere (spaghetti under dash) for the other side, connected a temporary earth to it but still will not work.

It failed MOT for no telltail, im sure this is right, can hear the relay clicking nice and loud , must be a sympathetic MOT tester to pass with no telltale unless its a series 1 :)

Are you sure that's a failure?

The last two MOTs I've had (both the Landy and my daily driver) both times the guy (different guys at different garages) have asked me to get in the car and do all the wiggling the steering wheel, put the lights on etc. whilst he checks it from the outside. Neither bloke checked the tell tail, as I was in the car and he wasn't.

I'm not a tester but yes no tell tell light is a fail - i had to swap my switch over for that reason

Of course, not all testers are as diligent as others, so you may get through with it not working

This link seems to confirm:

UKMOT.com MOT Manual 1.5 Indicators

Check that the hazard warning device operates with the ignition switched both on and off. While it operates, check that all the direction indicators flash simultaneously and the 'tell-tale' is working correctly.

i know it is not fixing the problem, but could a secondary tell tale not be put in, you can buy warning lights that can be wired up to flash instead of the tell tale, would at least allow you to pass the mot!

Problem fixed, i bought a cheap hazard switch replacement and it didnt work, then bought a Lucas hazard switch and everything works fine :), slowly learning what aftermarket parts are ok eg known brand like Lucas and which to steer clear of eg unbranded poor quality ****e, basically you get what you pay for.
Thanks for all your help.
