Chris - Please finally put this to bed for me. You have a facelift model and the hazard switch is now alight?

Ian - In taking the facelift hazard switch apart to identify the bulb, can you now put it back together again or is it a sealed unit and do you destroy it in the process of taking it apart?

Have taken the old swtich apart and have found that its illuminated by a very small blue LED in a white rubber holder.

Anyone got any ideas of where to get another one of these? Maplin maybe?

so i assume then the pre facelift hazard doesn't light up then, mine doesn't and is a 2002

Just a quick update on this in case anyone is still interested. After leaving the replacement switch that I bought in place even though it didn't light up I just forgot about it and got used to it. However, I recently replaced fuse F10 as my power fold mirrors weren't working and for some reason the swtich now lights up. Tried the one that I repaired using a LED I bought form Maplin and it works too.

No idea why that worked, but there you go. I guess that's why Land Rovers have character.
 
I didn't make the connection at the time and maybe it makes sense now....I changed a few of the fuses last month (No special reason, just had loads of new fuses in my tool box) and my hazard switch illumination started working. Why on earth would LR link the mirrors to the lighting circuit on the hazard switch?
 
Hmmm, my hazard switch bulb has never lit up since I have had the FL. I don't have powered mirrors.
I wonder if it is worth me checking that fuse also if it exists in my fuse box.
 
It could be worth checking. I had a chat with a mechanic mate about this today and the only thing we could think of is that changing the fuse broke another circuit which then did something in the ECU (or some other kind of electric control box) which reset everything, just like what happens when you take the battery out, when you put it back in the rear window drops down to calibrate. Just a thought. I wouldn't have thought that the dash lights wouldbe linked to any kind of control unit though. I had the battery out a while back to replace it and it didn't illumiate after that. It makes no sense!
 
My thoughts are these. The power fold mirrors are fed with a permanent live, as are the hazards. Maybe the switch bulb is between this live and a ground that is applied via the CCU. I can't think why it's not hooked into the side lights like all the other bulbs though. Now did you test the hazards actually worked while the mirrors didn't fold? If they didn't work then that would substantiate my thoughts.
 
One for Ian I'm afraid............Having an "S" model, my mirrors only fold in by way of a slap from my hand
 
Nothing wrong with manual folding mirrors - less to go wrong!

I think Nodge's idea makes sense. I didn't try the hazzards when the mirrors didn't work as it was p***ing down when they stopped working so fixed them in a rush. However, what stopped them working was the near side one getting knocked back towards the bonnet - when my wife tried the fold them back with the switch in blew the fuse as the motor couldn't move the mirror back past the stop.

I'll try putting the dead fuse back in as I left it on my workbench and see if the hazzards work. Will post what happens .
 
TBH spending money on other repairs at the moment - Replaced drop links 8k miles ago and am now having to do them again this morning.
Buy cheap and you get what you pay for I guess?

Cheap drop links are rubbish for sure. I use Delphi branded suspension components where possible as that was the OE supplier.
 
I know this is an old post, I have the same problem. Teddywood1 you mentioned maplins? I took the small LED into them this morning and the shop assistant was shall we say extremely blank his reply was never seen anything like that and walked away. Would you by any remote chance have any other ideas?

I got the replacement LED for mine form maplin. Can't remember how much it was but it was bloddy fiddly to fit into the swtich!
