Can anyone confirm (preferably by experience or first hand knowledge) whether a Hawkeye diagnostic gizmo will allow me to reset the SRS light on my recently acquired 300 Tdi Auto please doesn't seem to say on Hawkeye site? (Earlier Distributed SRS, the one with two sensor either side of the engine bay)

Don't really want to spend 300 notes then find it doesn't do one of the things i need it for!

Or;

Are there any local mobile tech's that would do able to reset onsite, if so what sort of cost?

Vehicle is about to undergo some 'renovation' so not mot'ed at moment and would definitely fail with the SRS light on!

Very true!

If it works i shall get a unit, as i'm removing the battery soon in able to start the weldathon, i figured that that would put the light on again anyway. I just want to be sure i can turn it off again.

I suspect the reason it's on is due to a low voltage issue as there's no previous record of it on mot's, but i'm not sure so would like to read the codes etc and try a reset, i'm hoping the Hawkeye may be a suitable piece of kit?

It will 'reset' itself once you fix the fault.
You can't reset it via the code reader, if the fault remains

My money is on the Rotary coupler being goosed or the yellow wiring under the seat going to the seat belt pre-tensioners

Cheers, i'm hoping to get started this weekend so will have a good look around the trouble spots.

Would a diagnostic point me in the right direction or were they not that advanced back then?

i thought disco1's didn't auto reset.

is that deffo? cos another guy is having issues with that and thought he needed the code cleared.

what i can say is that Hawkeye has the ability to read/clear fault codes for the SRS - TRW/SPS system fitted to D1 and P38, that's certain but they dont say nothing about the distributed sensors type

on my 96 300tdi non spider i left the ignition on and the gradually dropping voltage made the srs light come on and it did not reset, I just wired a new light to the glow plug circuit, 18 year old air bags prob wont work anyway

mine came on when i unplugged one of the front crash sensors so i could move it to fit a bigger battery

trax kindly lent me an obd2 code reader but it wouldnt talk to the car (mines also earlyer one with two sensors at front)

Probably not then, thought it was the same as the Disco II, every day's a school day then

I'm beginning to think this may be the solution, seems the earlier systems were a bit of an oddity, talk about building in obsolescence! ;)

Glad I've also got another Disco with non of this electronic s*** in!

Did you manage to get the light to go off in the end or did you just opt for the fudge it option??

Just had a nosey on the internet and found some info from nanocom regarding P38's that used the TRW MPS aka Distributed SRS (sensors in wings as apposed to in unit) and also that the Hawkeye application list says

Discovery Series 1 Airbag 95-96 TRW MPS J1962 Cable (BA 5071) Adapter Grey (BA5077}

Now admittedly mines a '94 but sounds like it has the AMR 4905 (i'll know for certain when i see it) so it sounds plausible that anyone with a hawkeye for a p38 may be able to read the airbag ecu.

Next question is........ has anyone tried or own a P38 and a disco 1 with airbags and a Hawkeye????

nice find, i've posted the info from my hawkeye's guide which was for early v.3 modell, it seems they've ugraded and now it works on MPS too, i dont have a D1 but i can say that hawkeye is built on Testbook T4's protocol so if it's stated in the coverage list it should work well with it

Cheers, think i'll see about getting myself a Hawkeye.

If it turns out not to work with the early D1's should be easy enough to find a buyer for a little used Hawkeye lol, but even better if it does work as then i'll be able to help out others with this prob as there seem to be a few about.

Might even be able to source some good D1 bargains too, when they fail the mot for the airbag light staying on lol

Did also find a place online that will reset the AMR 4905 but you have to send it off and won't help if you've not fixed the issue that put it on in the first place (as bigeee said) have seen others buy another unit that has no fault registered but again this doesn't help if you've still got a fault!

Will hopefully post again soon with my findings as soon as the beer token fairy arrives again next month.
