hello this is my first post i have a 110 td5 on a 2004 that is work owned im led to believe it has uprated suspension and brakes fitted from new at the factory as i tow 3.5ton on a daily basis it does this with ease but we would like to know if it is possible to be able to tow 4.5 ton as i have a machine that weights 3.5ton and that would leave 1 ton for a trailer im told a linked brake system would be needed or air brakes?

could any body tell me if this is doable who could do it and a rough idea of cost thanks very much for your time

You can tow a bit more if the landy and trailer are fitted with close coupled brakes think it's only 4000kg though so not much gain for all the hassle and expense.

yes im told that at the mo the legal limit it can tow is 3.5ton i had to take a trailer test to allow me to tow as well

Even with close coupled brakes the max towing weight is (as stated above) 4tonnes. So you still wouldn't be able to tow the machine you want to tow. And the cost of having them set up is not cheap. You'll be better off buying a larger vehicle or if the machine only gets a small amount of use just hiring a bigger vehicle as and when you need too

thats a bugger then the machine is used on a day to day basis the other option is for me to do my class 2 and use our spare skip lorry but i had hoped that we could of made the 110 tow it never mind thanks for all your advice il pop on here when the 110 breaks next !!

How easy was the trailer test? I need to do mine, would you recommend specialist training?

(i can tow/reverse/etc a trailer)

work paid for me to take the test i had 4 days training and and the fifth day i had my test i grew up on and around farm machines so towing trailers was second nature for me BUT as soon as i had my first days training my instructor said he had to get me out of all my bad habbits i couple of friends have taken the test with no training and faild it time after time the hardest part of the hole thing was getting used to driving properly again if you get what i mean

Lol you guys are evil :D I must say I nearly responded until I saw your post.

Joe the guy was asking about that since 2009, I am sure he probably figured it out by now :p

Welcome to Landy Zone Joe and look forward seeing more posts from you.
BTW, does the 318 in your nick means you have a BMW 318i?

Cheers.
