Just a thought , before fitting the bell vcu , did you mark around where the bearing carriers are bolted to the car , could the prop/vcu/prop be out of alignment , the vcu is slightly offset to the props , and if not put back in the same location , could that cause a vibration ?
 
Hi Ian I had a specialist do the work because they wanted their Bea**ont VCU back otherwise I would have had a go at it myself.....Hopefully they got it right!! :confused:

Doesn't make any difference. Bearings are best fitted to their natural position when in place and bolts pinched up before final torque.
 
It seems really loud in the cab like driving over a rumble strip but the vibration is only about 1/4 of that!!!! Really annoying!!
 
Oh and now my wipers have decided to stay in the vertical position on intermittent wipe!!!!!!!!!!! Great!!!!!!! New motor is it??
 
When I had the Hankooks fitted the tyre fitter said that they were good tyres BUT he had known of cases where the tread had lifted from the tyre carcass. Also, long time back I had a new tyre develope a blister on the inside tyre wall so I could nt see it. Took weeks to find the cause of a loud rumble.

Only about 2 weeks Grayo....... I would be surprised if it were tyres when I drove it into the garage......Smooth.....Left garage........Vibrating!!

That's exactly the same as what happened to me with the two cheap tyres I had put on the back. Drove into garage no vibration.......drove out 100 yds up the road noticed vibration, this lasted for a year until I drove into garage with vibration........had four Pirelli scorpion STR's put on.............drove out of garage instantly no vibration.

I am convinced its not tyres I would have noticed it before.... I think I am going to bite the bullet and have 2 GKN bearings fitted by another garage and see how we go.

Can you do the one-wheel-up test first?
I know it's a recently reconditioned VCU and Bell are extremely reliable, but it would be interesting to see the result anyway.
 
I don't think it's the bearings. I press in my own replacements without issues. It's worth making sure the VCU is in line with the car's centre line. If it's been bolted on twisted it can cause vibration.
Also it's worth making sure the UJs are free, especially those next to the VCU as the garage might have had to hammer the yolks off the VCU.

Also, if you swap the back wheels to the front and vice-versa, does it feel any different?
Sounds odd but if the problem isn't the tyres there should be no difference at all, whereas you may notice some difference if a tyre is faulty.
 
Will do that tomorrow.....What should the timing be roughly?

Most people report 11-15 seconds for a (approx) 1 meter bar with a weight of 5-8 kilos to travel through 45 degrees. Anything over isn't necessarily a problem but would suggest further investigation is warranted.
 
My problem is I have no recourse on the specialist now because I sourced my own parts so just wondering if they have done something out of spite now!!!!! Maybe just me being cynical!!

I cant see how a tyre can go faulty in an hour??

The rubbers are 2nd hand could that be a problem?
