Hi wife's bought a freelander td4 2001. I can not make up my mind if HG has gone or could it be something else. Just done a motorway run doing 70+ parked on drive and coolant leaking. Popped bonnet and water coming from header tank. Took cap of and what looks like foam in there. No oil just foam, let it cool down and it clears. No gunk in oil and runs fine. Looks like k-seal has been in it at some point?????
Anyway is this HG or could it be something else.!!!!any advice appreciated.

Td4's aren't as prone to HGF as the K series petrol engine, but it's a possibility. It might help if you flushed the cooling system, it sounds like you've got some kind of contaminent in there. BUt if your coolant is leaking then I would get it into a garage soon, your HG will almost certainly go if there's no coolant in the system.

very rare for a td4 head gasket to go, you have some pressure somewhere have you checked themostate in not in the closed position, which i know are difficult but you need to check, have you refilled and opened the air bleed valve on the top of the two hoses that go into the bulk head , I think if you had head gasket you would have oil in the water and vice versa. just to popint out the header tanks are prone to cracks in them best is to renew and a new cap

My old coolant bottle was 10 years old before it started weeping , New one is genuine part not aftermarket ?

If the head gasket is blown between the coolant passages and a cylinder it could pressurise the coolant, but I would imagine you would have plumes of white smoke out the back, with a horrible antifreeze smell, especially at 70.
Could be as already said the system has been refilled and not bled properly, where does the temp gauge sit??

Going to flush system. Spoke to garage where she got it from and it's had head gasket done??? He's going to find out what else was done head skinned, pressure tested!!! No oil in water and only water not emptied system. No miss fire! So fingers crossed its old crap in system due to not been flushed right. Thanks for replies gents:)
