Hi again:
Still working on my Series 3 109 200tdi conversion. All is going well but no luck finding a Defender intake manifold. Has anyone had success inverting a Disco manifold and making adaptors to fit with the Defender exhaust manifold?

No, but i did think about inverting it when i do my conversion, and have the turbo sticking up through the bonnet to anger purists and making my own down pipe :)

Seriously ,though, if you invert the disco intake manifold and just build an adaptor so that it sits just below and slightly outboard of the defender exhaust manifold it should sit out of the way of the turbo and downpipe. Also maybe not foul the alternator? Just an idea that I had since I can't find a Defender intake manifold. Also if you curve it just right it shouldn't breathe too badly and seeing as how they are both from the same engine there shouldn't be a volume problem.

I am unsure how a 300 tdi manifold would differ from a 200 tdi. I have both a 200 tdi and 300 tdi disco manifold (exhaust) and they look pretty much the same. Are a Defender 300 and 200 manifold(s) different in the same way the 200 manifolds (disco and defender) are different? Are they more available?

the 300 exhaust manifold and turbo sits higher than a disco 200tdi turbo and housing thats all that made me say about 300 :) never done one so dont no just an idea :)

300 tdi manifold sits lower and the exhaust just misses
the N/S engine mount. Makes fitting exhaust much easier
and better.Done it on mine and had no problems " 2yrs
now. Cheers Stuart:):rolleyes::argue::argue::scratching_chin:

300tdi manifold is the easy answer! The 200tdi turbo should also fit into it, just remember the extended oil pipes as well

Here's some pics from my old thread years back

The disco 200tdi manifold kicks out at an angle towards the chassis rail. The disco 300tdi manifold points straight down as you would want and misses the chassis rail.

Steve parkers also now do an exhaust to fit a 300tdi manifold fitted to a 200tdi in a series 88/109 if you want off the shelf bolt on stuff!

most folks talk of 200 and 300 disco manifolds, i used the 300 disco manifolds to fit my 200 engine into my 109 without having to cut or modify anything

i've no idea what the defender manifolds look like

the 200 disco manifold can be used in a 109 though, you can scallop a small chunk out of the chassis to allow clearance, you can tilt the engine and gearbox to lift the turbo above the chassis rail or you can just lift the engine to clear the chassis rail

i used the 300 disco turbo in mine as i knew how i wanted the finished build to look rather than just "force" the engine to fit

Your 300tdi manifold looks different from mine. As I recall even though the manifolds appear almost identical the 300tdi has a totally different turbo.
I'm going out to the arage and have another look at them.
Is your 300tdi manifold from a Defender or Disco?

it's a disco manifold, the turbo housing is also part of the manifold casting and is completely different to a 200 disco manifold/turbo
