Thanks for the suggestion. By the miracle of Facebook, someone's sold me a secondhand one, and his old input gear and bearings - which I'm hoping is all need to take the place of my GKN overdrive.

Is the input gear cross drilled? If not I’d replace with one that is... only £45 from Ashcroft also is just put new bearings in. They’re not expensive then you’re sorted.
Edit - didn’t read this is a temp thing. If you don’t put the over drive back in do the above.
If it isn't cross drilled and is only a temporary measure while the overdrive is being repaired then you should get away without replacing it, just make sure the splines are greased when you assemble it
