However, I can shed a little light on the answer to the OP's question.
I'm just sorry that I couldn't have done this sooner.
I visited my local bodyshop today, to discuss some work I need done soon.
The bodyshop I use is as good as any on the island of Ireland and probably one
of the best in the British Isles.
I chatted to the owner, while stood outside, as it was a warmish, sunny day.
We were standing beside a Defender with a very wierd looking paint job.
It looked like it had been wrapped and then long ragged strips of the vinyl torn off
at random. It was sitting in the bodyshop, waiting to be repainted because when it was
first painted, the person doing the work had merely sprayed new paint onto old,
with zero prep. Only one coat was painted on.
The bodyshop owner saw me looking at the vehicle and explained how it had come to
look the way it did.
Shortly after returning home, with his newly repainted Defender. The owner of the restored Defender used a domestic pressure washer to clean the vehicle.
Instead of cleaning his pride and joy, the pressure washer stripped most of the paint off.
This was when the exact nature of the bodged paint job was discovered .
Remaining on the outside of the vehicle, somewhat ironically, was a decal for Image 4x4.
The same company being enquired about here and the company who had claimed to have
done a professional respray.
I won't give any specifics here, but if the owner of this website wants to contact me to ascertain my
bona fides, they are more than welcome to.
On a more positive note, I'm about to take delivery of my first Land Rover .
A 1995 Range Rover Classic, 3.9 ltr, soft dash.
I plan to buy and restore a Series 3 this year, starting around Easter.
Whilst in uniform, I've driven many many miles and even slept in Defenders
of various kinds and I miss the unique experience of driving one.
So expect many daft questions , as my project progresses!
