They are fri ggin rare beasts, as I wanted a manual with lpg. But patience paid off and I got one that had belonged to a welder who had done all the usual stuff, sills etc. Result!

Nice
Id like one but the nearest gas pump is 40 miles away unless I got a pump for the propane bottles
id end up using the cooker gas lol

My ex son-in-law looked into having an lpg tank at home as he had a more modern LR with lpg. He worked out that if he did that and shared the cost with a mate, the lpg came in even cheaper than you can buy it for, a lot cheaper. Got rid of the car before going any further with it. Shame you can't persuade someone where you work or whatever.

Ive been offered a p38 4.6 with lpg it had a new engine at 60k now at 120 older chap own's it he
got it off his mate then sold it to his brother then he bought it back.
Im sure he said somit about it had 4L pistons to lower the compression as it was getting a lpg
conversion?? Its a lovely motor though he will give me it for 2k.

Never heard about lowering compression for an lpg burner. Why would you? Lowering compression for a turbo, that I have heard of.
Normally lower compression engines are to be run in countries where you cannot get good quality petrol, in the old days, 4 or 5 star. and I don't think this goes on much nowadays, but then i may be wrong.
Like unleaded petrol when it first came in, i think ignition timing has to be altered but that is dealt with by the computer that comes with the system. I hope!
Anyway here is a thread that shows it ain't obvious!

and these seem to gainsay your mush about compression being lowered for LPG, in fact the opposite seems to be true.

All i know is mine runs fine!

I will have a read up later ta much ;)

There are one or two D1s around near me, there’s an H reg 3 door and a 300tdi 3 door on the road I sometimes see, and another H reg 3 door parked in a unit which hasn’t seen the road for years nearby.

The drop arm is fine on mine, tightened that up to very tight when I put reconditioned steering box back on. Currently thinking front shocks, then maybe polybushing front radius arms if that doesn’t fix it.

Yeah if you do all the bushings bit by bit you'd think you would get a bit of improvement each time you swap something for new. Have you tried swapping your tyres front to back? Perhaps you have a tyre slightly out of round. Or perhaps a bit of all of the above accumulating into death wobble.
