Hi,

I've put a number of security measures on my 90 300TDi, but I'm considering something much more old skool - a big fat motorcycle chain and a heavy duty ground anchor plate. It seems fixing my Defender to my 300-year-old stone barn might be a good idea.

Does anyone else tie up their Defender at night? And if so, which part of the Landy do you tie to the post?

Any advice welcome, thanks

feasible but bolt cutters would take care of it...although decent enough ones would be a few hundred quid... Its an interesting thought, whilst most are going high tech/alarms/gps tracking perhaps most thieves now wouldnt have the heavy duty kit .

Mines chained to a ground anchor I fitted when I built the garage.
So, in a locked & alarmed garage, steering disc lock and chained down.
Oh yeah, and an Alsation that doesn't do first dates.

Sorry, edit to add...... Chained around the chassis underneath and the steering is
always on full lock directed toward the garage wall.

if you us those cement anchors provided....... they will pull out of the cement if they drive off. You got 4 holes close together(4-5" APART) making the cement weak

Used to know this one guy in Whitworth, just outside Rochdale, and he parked his series in teh road, with a real decent chain, around the chassis, and around the grid, in the gutter of his street.

Used to pass it many times on the way to work.

I keep my 90 in a locked unit, with a disk lock on the steering wheel and 8 CCTV cameras on the yard one pointing at my doors

My bike chain cost £250... but the only way your getting through it is with an angle grinder (and alot of discs!)

Its simply too big to get croppers on and all the usual hardened tempered and annealed etc so you cant **** it, freeze it etc.

A good one is ships anchor chain, its cheap enough and too thick to crop

Power tools attract attention.

A ground anchor that is cemented in is the best type i think, it wants to have a large plate that is buried, especially if your thinking of holding back a car with it! I would suggest you make your own, quite easy to do.

Other option is to simply have a rectangular hole (use a plug to form the shape) and cast a big steel bar in approx 100mm down with a bit of mesh etc to strengthen the whole thing.

I got 2 Motorcycle chains there so thick theres no way of getting through em without an angle grinder, on a night i stick em through the wheels and then up and over the chassis, so both back wheels are chained to the chassis, anyone tried to move it, itl come to an almighty stop with a pretty wild bang id have thought.

There has been many posts in the past, just remember all your great ideas can be seen by anyone.... Good and bad people members or not so just remember be careful before you post a 'how too' or talk about how you made your pride any joy safe, just gives thieves info, though having said that I do agree security can be an issue

I don't even bother to lock mine at all. Neither did the previous owner, nor do any of my neighbours. One of the advantages of living on a small island with a total population of less than Tunbridge Wells!

The downside of that is that you all have three eyes and dribble....but I do see the charm!

Go buy an old boat anchor and chain, sink that into ground then try it probs cheaper too from scrappy or online

I put a sign on my steering wheel pointing out that the steering is disconnected and that the rotten chassis makes the whole thing a deathtrap! No takers so far.

Unfortunately it's true so I can't drive it either
