My door speaker is not working and needs replacing, i have the Harman Kardon stereo fitted, what i would like to know is, are the door speakers up graded when they put these stereos in or not, as the one in my door looks just like the standard ones. Not shore what to replace it with?:5bparty:

As far as I could find out the HK upgrade primarily consisted of the Amp system and the additional tweeters + sub. I think the speakers themselves are the same

Thank you i think you maybe correct, that thing in the boot is the amp then is it? been trying to work out what it was since i got it! Will take a chance and try and get some standard speakers, cheers.

Hi Jasey

When you say the thing in the boot I assume you mean in the boot floor attached to the back of the cover? Thats a sub-woofer. The amp is under the passenger seat in mine.
Hope this helps.

Tony

Most of what you can see when you lift the floor is just a reverb cabinet. The speaker is a single unit with two separate voice coils hence the 4 separate conductors going into the box.
This design was done for two reasons. One is it would allow the separate coils to be across each channel of the amp, possibly with a passive crossover and prevent crosstalk between channels and use the main amp. The second option would be to use a pair of dedicated sub amps, one for each coil and double the effective drive of the speaker. It was a way of getting over the limits caused by cars only having 12v available. I don't know what HK/LR did as I can't find detailed circuit diagrams.

Just to tie this thread up, it was a H/K speaker as when i finally removed it, it had a H/K sticker on the back and the part number. It cost £35 to replace and sounds good again, thanks for your help and hope this helps others. If you have the H/K upgrade it will defo have upgraded speakers all round a sub woofer in the boot and additional tweeters + 6 cd changer under the drivers seat. Thats what you get for the upgrade!

I have a knackered rear speaker in mine and have been thinking about getting a new one...where did you buy yours from?

Thanks

Phil

before you go replacing the door speakers try cleaning the ends of the speaker wire ,they are known as being rubbish wire made in china
