Hiya,

I've got one of these 11-speaker (or is it 12?) jobbies in my TD5 and it sounds lovely, but there's hardly any bass. I've adjusted bass up to +9 in the settings (button with the musical note on it) but it doesn't seem to help too much. Then I realised that there's nothing coming out of the subwoofer in the rear door. I wondered if there's a setting to switch it off but I haven't got the manual so I held down the button with the musical notes on it and the screen said "FLAT".

Is this what's wrong? I couldn't get this to change to anything else. Does anyone know how to change this or turn the SW on?

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Is that an aftermarket stereo? If so, you probably haven't got the subwoofer connected. It's a common mistake made by stereo fitters. You'll need a special lead, I found one on Ebay, just search for 'Discovery sub woofer lead', and you should find what you are looking for. If you already have the lead fitted, check the connections.

Hi - and thanks...!

It's not an aftermarket one, it's the "Premium" stero I believe. A bit more searching seems to show that it might actually be an "Alpine" unit not Harman Kardon... The one I've got is the one explained in the 'Premium' section of this page: http://www.discoveryownersclub.org/tech/bodyelec/ice.php

I think it's a sensible thing to check the connections - I'll do that today. But I've also learned that plugging a set of headphones into the 'kids' controllers in the back disconnects the subwoofer output .. maybe this is faulty? (I don't have any headphones plugged in)

Anyone know what the 'FLAT' setting is and how to change it?

Cheers guys

Right - Think I may have been looking to solve a problem that isn't there... There is sound coming out of the rear door speaker but it's just bass.. I though it would be really punchy, like a bass tube, but I think it's just my expectations, and in fact it's just more of a frequency thing to give a fuller sound, rather than a punchy bass speaker..

Not sure if anyone else has any other opinion!

It also seems that "FLAT" is simply a mode that resets all the EQ and faders back to zero.. there aren't any more settings.

On the upside, I've just learnt that I can turn my headlights on and off via the remote, which is cool.

Cheers
James
