could somebody be so kind as to refresh my memory for the 'hard reset' procedure please? cheers guys!:)

i've got a couple of issues with my stereo and want to carry out a hard reset on my l322 rangie. i believe you disconnect the battery on the neggy lead or something?

as far as i know

disconnect both battery leads and then touch the two leads together for 10 seconds to discharge any power left in the system.

maybe someone can correct me.

i would like to do it to mine but im scared of what might go wrong :S

Cheers hippo i've done it once before but its been a while so couldn't quite remember. Sounds familiar now you say it, i'll give it a go tomorrow

You are correct.

This is usually followed by waiting 10 mins before re-connecting.

well i did the hard reset! no problems, no major disasters, nothing broke mind you having said that i didnt wait 10 mins after touching + & - leads together. Go on give it a go! ;)

Good to hear :)

did it reset / fix any faults ?

well iv got to face my fears soon as iv ordered a new battery so will have to disconnect it at somepoint lol

im hoping it will reset my EAS ECU as the suspension control panel on the dash has completly gone off since i had "air susp. inactive" come up !

fingers crossed ah ? ! lol

I'll try it again this weekend like I say I forgot to wait 10 mins or so, I didn't fully complete reset so didn't fix fault although no damage do either. Will let you know!

I thought the + and - leads should never touch or am I mistaken?

I am looking to do a hard reset to reboot my Satnav without removing the passenger seat and unplugging the bcu. A hard reset looks like the way forward but I thought it would be safer to disconnect the + and - leads and earth the + lead with a jump cable.

Any ideas?

Not when they are attached to the battery - obviously not....

Disconnect the battery at both poles following the RAVE procedure....and then wait for 20 minutes for the SRS to discharge, the touch the two LEADS together but NOT ON THE BATTERY, this should discharge the system for a reset.

Reconnect and reset the Steering Angle Sensor and job done!

That's the same as connecting the + & - together:)

If you are doing a hard reset it is vitally important to follow the correct procedure as there is a pyrotechnic device on the plus lead that explodes in the event of an accident to shut off the power ! incorrect battery detachment and reset can trigger this device !!!
