Hi my 1999 v8 p38 brake pedal seems hard the brakes work fine but the pedal seems hard to push is this normal or could it be the accumulater

Loss of accumulator will render brakes mostly inoperative.

Not sure what you mean by hard as it is subjective.....a brake pedal should feel firm, but give some feedback on pressure spplied against braking force, a solid pedal like hitting a wall is wrong, as is a soft wallowy pedal!

How long does the TC lamp take to go out when first started up from an overnight lay up?

Lights go out quickly the pedal feels. Like it needs a fair amount of effort to push but brakes work i,ve never had a car with this braking system it feels like a car with no servo assist

Then the accumulator is fine. Different system to a servo assisted brake. There is not much travel unless something fails.

whilst on the subject my accumalator has had it. should i change the the abs pump as well? I have a complete second hand unit sitting in the shed. how hard is it to change>

Leave the ABS pump alone as long as it's working and buy a new accumulator.
