I went. Scared myself. Went home.

Then I spent the rest of the day jet-washing all the mud off. Rear brakes were packed with the stuff.

To be honest, without anyone to give me advice / pointers, I felt very out of my depth. I think I'd be lying if I said I had a good time!

was that bad??

what happened? I've never done a pay&play, so dont really know what to expect

Don't get me wrong - everyone else there seemed to be having a great time!

I'd never taken my Landy off-road before so it was a real case of "in at the deep end". Apart from the obvious - stick it in diff-lock and stay in a low gear - I didn't really have a clue as to what I was doing. Not the fault of the site at all - I just wish I'd known in advance what I was letting myself in for.

First time off roading can be a little daunting, Pay and plays are good fun but like greenlaning it really is best not to go alone ;)

Find a club or get others off here to go with you.
You can get off road driving dvd's/books etc.
Although nothing beats actually doing it yourself, for your first time it's best to be a passenger and watch what everyone else does, then get someone to sit with you telling you what to do.
Then just take it easy, but have fun. :D
You'll be amazed at what your Landy can do in Low range at tickover :D

Yep - in hindsight, being a passenger or at least having someone in the car with me would have been a better idea!

Hey ho - at least I finally got my Landy properly dirty!

lol - I live 2 miles from Aldermaston. I'm ashamed it has taken me so long to go there. Maybe I'll go back in a month or so and if one of the marshalls can take me round. :)

lol
I live about 10 mile from a pay & play site I've been the Twice in about 4 years

We were lucky as one off our club members hired the aldermaston site for the day and we were allowed to camp there saturday night well good. when we got there we went and got the keys and the guy that runs the place took 3 off us around in his Shogun/Pajero can't remember what one it was

then I went around with one of the guys in the morning showing me what needed to be where and what too look out for,

Then we went around in my Disco and the rest is history.

A lot of clubs ours do anyway if there is any new people or any one whant advice they are willing to help last driving day I think it turned into more of a how do you drive and instructing on how to do bits was good fun:D:D

Aah Ian, you should've come spoken to msyelf or Carl, we'd have taken you round! Did keep an eye out but only say a blue F-reg, sdidn't see you - but we were a bit late getting there!

We're no experts, but have got Carl's V8 Disco round there twice now on most (if not all) the red and white routes with no major (or minor, really) damage so happy to give you some pointers!

I got there early, Mike - by lunchtime I'd had enough!

I did look for you, but it sounds like you got there after me. Ah well - another time :)

I imagine we'll be going again next month, so come along again and we'll arrange to meet up and give you a guided tour - sure Carl won't mind you riding shotgun in his Disco and I'll be happy to join you as a passenger in yours too!

Instantsquid, there is the Hampshire & Berkshire land rover owners club you could join. Check out their website. I joined them last year and I live in Thatcham. We regularly go out Greenlaning. I keep meaning to go to Aldermaston as it's so close but haven't yet.
