OK so I had to remove the clevis pin on the handbrake lever so i could pull the lever straight up so I could remove the centre console, still with me??

When I put the clevis pin back in, the handbrake doesnt "bite" on the teeth of the ratchet part of the handbrake and the button doesnt pop out anymore!

So now the handbrake wont stay "on" and doesnt click on the way up.

Any ideas??

Thanks - oh yeah its a Disco 1 300tdi auto

Take the pin out and check how the lever, teeth and button work. Maybe the lever got bent or something.
If all ok then use a smaller pin in diameter (or u can use a philips screwdriver) to test again. If all ok then try the original pin back again. If not ok then turn the handbrake cable's tip 180 degrees and see if it works

The same thing happened to mine, the rod that runs down the centre is probly a bit bent now, if y had as much fookin about as I did puttin pin back.
you just need to straighten t up. and also make sure the rod is fitted back in the right way, it should be up inside the lever. mine dropped down and it took me a while to realize its was wrong.
But then again i am thick....
