hi there new to the fourm,
my landrover has gone in for its MOT and failed becsause the chassis needed welding (not to supried really)
but they said something about the handbrake not been corrrcet and misaligned:confused::confused: and they said they would look into it as they arnt land rover specialist they said they would take a few days, its been over a week and they said they are looking into the handbrake problem... anybody heard of this or had the problem or can you tell em how it got fixed so i can go n tell the man how to do the bloody job and also does anyone know of a landrover specialist near the crewe, alsager, stoke sort of area thanks ben :)

i had thought that might be the case (im actually 15 its technically my dads landy) but i shall go and pick it up with him as i shall check what they have done !!!!!!!! and as i can weld i will insist on not paying £3** for welding if it is not up to TOP standards, i had noticed that once when i had the middle seat out and the cover under the seat because i was steam cleaning the gearbox, that as i let out the clutch the drum span just under a quater of a rev, is this normal ? and maybe this is what they r ona bout?:confused:

I had a Series Three 109 CSW 2.25D. The hand brakedrum has an adjuster on the back of it to take up wear. You might have to dissassemble to find out the cause, something could be seized so out with the WD40. You will also need a 9/16 offset ring spanner to get the drum off.
If you want an illustrated parts manual text me your address on and I'll post you my old one:cool:

Matt Disco 300tdi (Much better)

Hi
it's hard to recommend a repair shop as people's experiences differ. I have used Land Ranger Services in Middlewich in the past and found them very helpful. I get my spares from there too. They have a depot in King Street Fenton, but I don't know if they do repairs there. Should be handy enough for you to call in?

There's two adjustments, one on the drum backplate (set as per rest of brakes) and an adjuster nut on the linkage rod to set the play in the brake lever. With the brake applied the drum should not move. Common faults are oil contamination from the gearbox and wear in the expander unit.
