Hi Guys,
i have had my handbrake lever apart on my disco 1 200 TDI to refit my center console and the button will not spring back and i have found a spring clip which i think is involved but cant work out how it refits

button jamming is usually the rod getting beht when lever held rigth back ,you can pull/push it with a screw driver till buttons free

Hi James,
cheers for you reply but the button is not jammed but won't spring back and has to be pushed from behind as the is no spring. the clip i found down the side of the seat has come out but don't know how to fit it back. i have a picture but can't seem to attach it to this post

whats happened is when you have removed it. The toothed part that moves with the button has been pulled all the way up and flipped over. Remove the cable pin so you can lift the handbrake vertically and then flip it back with a screwdriver and lower the handbrake back down.

Sorry if that makes no sense its really hard to explain

Hi Scrappyloz,
thanx for your input but the pins is out and toothed pivot flipped correctly but there is no spring recoil on button as there should be and the larger spring clip the this photo was found down between the seat and the transmission tunnel and i think its our missing link but not sure how it fits in.

cheers Kelly

pin looks like cable to lever securing pin ,still button doesnt need much on rod to stop it returning try it

securing pin is the smaller one next to the pin but i will try manipulating the rod. just not sure where this other pin is from.
cheers

Having the same issue, the cable came out from inside the handrake handle. Pin and clip stored. Then wouldnt fit back in as the space between rod and lever case wasnt big enough (is this a design feature ??lol) pushed the bar enough to get the loop back in and got the pin back in, but now the bar is bent by the cable loop. Doesnt seem correct to me. Please can someone explain how this is meant to go back together again? I dont get what this means "then flip it back with a screwdriver and lower the handbrake back down."

Is it the wrong side of the rod? Both side seem the same. Im sure im being a total bell end here and doing something totally wrong

Ah ha
For the benefit of those who follow my path of ineptitude, I had pulled the lever right back, and the toothed quarter wheel had flipped forward along with the attached bar.
Fixed by pulling the handle right up with button in and pushing the bar and quarter wheel back into the body of the handle.
Spigot in fine and all working fine
