handbrake is fine on the handle end so why is it not doing anything, not biting and holding the wheels, please Help, make it simple mear woman:D
 
could be 1 of 3 things, either handbrake drum needs just a couple of clicks up on the adjustment nut, cable needs adjusting (stretched cable),or the actuator is seized .
 
Hi,if your parking brake is adjusted properly, you could have oil on your brake shoes, if that is the case you will need to change the transfer gearbox rear output seal. cheers elt.
 
No.5 - Missing rear propshaft.

(Don't laugh, my boy had one presented for MOT like that back along).
 
handbrake adjusted and working but all 4 wheels are still turing when the hand brake is on. help help where is the actcentuater
 
right will try to get that checked out, thanks might be back if not so and then on to next MOT preoblem lol
 
if it oil on the shoes can you spray brake cleaner through the adjustment hole to see if it makes a diffrence?

You can do anything it's up 2U, but "contamination" comes to mind the shoes are inpregnated with oil, if it is oil most owners would find out the reason and rectify that then clean everything up and fit new shoes. Is the outside of the drum covered in oil? anyway it's not that hard to remove the drum for a look-see :)
 
just get the rear prop out, inspect and clean and adjust.....

if you are not prepared to take it out and check inside to see what's happening you'll never know what's happening....
might be the shoes are not there anymore lol

I didn't think it was an easy job as im new to landys, and I was just thinking of an easy way for her to test if that was the problem. But i totally agree if you got the time strip it clean it and replace the broken/ warn and your on to a winner!:D

if you follow the handbreak cable to the drum its the lever thing that is connected to it and the gubinze that goes into the drum back plate.
sounds very familier to me (had plenty of crap in me eye trying to solve that little problem in the past ) :D
 
If it's oil in there you might see the gap is a bit wet and the adjacent chassis has a damp patch where the oil has been thrown out when the drum spins.
 
its not that difficult a job to dstrip down, but the handbrake on my 200 keeps filling up with mud etc and the mech keeps seizing.

im so fed up of rebuilding it ive given up, but for an on road vehicle usually a quick rebuild makes it ultra sweet again.

new shoes may be required, and maybe an oil seal for the transfer if there's oil in there.

i'd budget 40 quid for parts, maybe 50 for labour if youre getting a garage to strip down and rebuild, otherwise about 1-2 hours of your time :)
