Help. I was taking out the centre console to tidy up some wiring using a haynes manual for guidance and it said to take the handbreak cable off the lever. That was grand until I went to put it back on again and because of the poxy design it goes in between the release lever and i cant for the life of me get it to go back in

any suggestions

disco 2 ?
you need to grip the cable with pliers, lever/pull it up & then with the other hand slide the pin through the lever & the cable eye..fiddly but do-able

Thanks foss. Its a disco 1 and i have been at that for a while but it was getting me no where so i went off for smoke before i lost the plot but ill get back at it later. At least its an auto so i have park insted of the handbreak

is there an adjuster the console end?
could you not slacken it off to get more cable through & then readjust when tis in ze 'ole

You have to grip the cable with a pair of pointy pliers just below the metal thingy on the end then pull the cable up ( you're pulling against the brake shoe springs) and stick it in position in the handbrake lever and slide the pin in.
Simples, or it was when I did it last week.:):)

it will be alot easier to loosen the handbrake adjuster behind the drum then you will have enough slack to fit the cable to the lever, once in place just adjust the handbrake again by the adjuster behind the drum
