Took my O/S front & rear doors to Land Rovers UK to be refurbished whilst on my way to the south coast for a holiday. They had rusted quite badly on the bottoms, as they do.

Picked them up a week later on my return trip, their guy Stuart had done a great job on them, considering he had discovered that the doors had been reinforced (its an ex-police Defender) which made his job harder.

I know many folk have done the repair job themselves, but I have no welding/metal work skills and its my daily vehicle that I need each day for work, so was happy to pay someone else to do it.

Heres some before and after photos...(if anyone knows what the lining panel is made of then please let me know)

Luck guy your in UK. I have to do the same thing on mine, first have to find someone who can do it here in Bangalore, someone special who can work on Aluminium.
 
I have to take my doors to them.... its 100 quid a door isnt it?

I bought my 90 from them, so might get a discount! lol
 
Yep, £100 per door. I know the usual replacement piece is available for about £15, and its perhaps an easy job for most DIY folk but as I mentioned earlier, I have no metal work or welding skills.

We took the wifes car on holiday, with my landy doors in the boot and suitcases in the roof box. Had to park my Landy up under the carport with the two doors off. Blocked in by my mothers car. Fortunately it wwas still there when I got home a week later:)

Land Rovers UK have an excellent set up with some great looking Defenders for sale. The staff were great, especially Stewart in the workshop. All worked out well considering I was driving from S.Yorks to Weymouth, which meant I only needed a slight detour to get to LR UK. I had considered packaging the doors to them, but the costs would have made it uneconomical:eek:

Bloody ell. 100 quid a door would already be uneconomical for me! You could have bought a nice mig welder, had a bit of practice, fixed your doors and still had change for a celebratory pint afterwards. Then next time you need something welding all it would cost is your time.
 
Point taken, I had considered doing it myself but, in the end, doing it my way was the most convenient for me.

Anyone know what the the lining in my doors is made of? Apparantly it was a bugger for them to cut away. Ive never seen it in any other landy doors.
 
:Looks like a lovely job.Mine were similar but just rammed metal rods into the frames,filled with old filler and painted.Not so beautiful but should last a few years!Yee Haaa!

I know that £100 per door isnt cheap, but considering ive recently had a new galv chassis swap, a galv bulkhead swap and will soon be respraying my 110, then a couple of hundred quid extra certainly isnt my biggest ££ outlay
 
:)Sounds like youve done a great job unlike my bodge.Anything but pay £300+for new door(unpainted or assembled).Sounds like youll never need another vehicle.
