My 02 KV6 (98k miles) has been parked for the last 3 years untouched in a barn. Got it running np, new coolant, new fuelpump n filter (together), fresh gas n no problems. I drove it about 2000 miles now n got some codes EVAP solenoid changed (cleared one code), bank 2 VIS motor (cleared code), and just waiting for a MAF to come in mail for final code! HEHE

Basically my cooling fans are goin like a cheetah on cocaine and have no desire to stay off when parked. On n off whenever they see fit! Unplugged main to keep from wearing out motor, accessory still goin on and off when it wants, even after being in my garage for a few hours. My cars not overheating, even in the florida heat in city traffic but these fans dont give 2 ****s either way. Cant locate a relay, only a fusible link in the junction box under the bonnet. does one exist? Let me know what your thinking

The fans speed is controlled by engine ECU via a control unit mounted to the radiator (battery side). It's housed in a plastic box with a few wires going to it. The fan control unit receives a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal from the engine ECU.
Your first point to check would be the connections at the fan control unit.

What is the temperature gauge showing?

Hello fellow Canadian owner of a Freelander!

Does you odb2 code reader report the engine temperature (coolant temperature)? Is so what is it?

My thermostat had failed shut in mine, but it looks like I changed it just in time.

I would think the sensor has shorted out

Hey Teddy, you say you think a sensors bad. what sensor, Engine temp?
My scanner doesnt show temp but the gauge shows right in the middle where its been the ast 5 years ive owned it.(200 F approx?)

Ive disconnected the main fan, only accessory goin now. What connectors r u thinking

There are t temperature sensors on NAS KV6. Worth checking them both.
It's unwise to disconnect the fan, the engine ECU is putting on for a reason.

There are two coolant temperature sensors in the NAS V6. One near the thermostat housing. The other sensor is in the bottom big hose going to the radiator.

The cable shielding to the main coolant sensor often falls to pieces as shown below.

TY zefrench, i sucked it up and bought a scan tool today Its telling me the trucks running at 176 F so not hot and giving me a P1117 telling me the return to rad temp sensors. Gonna order that sensor for the big bottom hose (thermostat monitoring sensor), Ill update and let you know how it goes

Replacing the sensor should shut the fans down again. The engine ECU puts the fans on if it can't work out the engine temperature. It's a kind of fail safe. Don't forget to reconnect the fan.

TY Nodge, good info!
Also, i crawled under the truck, found the rad hose on the drivers (left) side. Cant seem to find a sensor. Anyone have a diagram of the KV6 cooling system or any advice or tips for locating and replacing the coolant temp sensor?

Look for the rave manuals. In any case the sensor can only be seen from above not from below. Look for an electrical wire headed down that way.
