Spotted a headlight and a side light (on different sides) out when I got to the station this morning, so hopped on the train and pulled up the owners manual - only to find it gives just the wattage and not the type of bulb needed!

A quick search on a few obvious sites revealed that some places suggest an H7, some an H4 - please can anybody clarify which I need for a 2001 D2 with self-levelling headlights? Or what bulb the sidelight requires? I've had a search but most of the chat is about LEDs and the like

Is the bulb a combined main and dip? In which case it's H4

If the headlights are seperate, as on the facelift then it's H7

In most cases the sidelight bulbs are T10 capless wedge 6watts

H4. I get mine from Powerbulbs - they have a bulb finder that used to show (incorrectly) H7s.

Blimey,

You are right, no bulb type appears in the prefacelift manual, how bizarre.

This might help. No affiliation , just the first site I found, that distinguished between facelift and pre facelift.

Darn beaten to it, LOL

I had to go outside in the rain to make sure my spare bulbe were right , LOL

Lovely, thanks all! H4s is it. The manual is possibly the least helpful source of bulb advice I've ever seen!

The facelift manual ( 2003) , has it written next to the wattages,

Guess they realised they had made an ommision.
