Last year I bought a Brownchurch roof rack. Over winter I cut the back out (so we could fit our roof tent), had it blasted and regalvanised (ensuring that there were two 5mm holes between each weld for the hot galv to flow). Also had new securing brackets made, which were also galved.

I thought it looked great and was just what we wanted.

We went to fit the tent today, only to discover that the tent (wide model) is an inch wider than the inside of the roof rack:doh:

The roof rack is now on fleabay and I'm reverting back to roof bars:mad:

The moral of the story is.............

Bye bye roof rack

I thought about that Shifty but they are so damn expensive and we got ours for a snip.

No, I'm afraid it's back to roof bars.

The tent can't be changed.

We did contemplate cutting some of the side box off but we've already had it regalved.
The galv place (Eastleigh - Southampton) is a minimum of £80 and we don't have any other bits to galv.

Feeling totally pi%ed off and I know it's all my fault for jumping in with both feet first.

be alryt cut the section out and spray some cold galv over it will be fine not like its in prime eyesight on the roof ;)

.

You might not have any other bits, but why not ask around on here, there will probably be some local peeps who could chip in with some bits to galv, ;);););)

Yeah do what crowmann has done.

It's just a couple more cuts, if you can't galvanize it right now, just seal it with something for now until you have other bits to do.

If you sell it, no doubt the buyer will do exactly that, benefitting from your hard work and money spent.

Never even got use it once before I sold the damn tent - the conversation went along the lines...'if you think I'm climbing that to sleep in there... you have another....'

However the rack and its cut down sides all worked well and still looks good - kind of Tomb Raider ish .......

If it doesn't sell (I've had a couple of reasonable offers) then I'll cut it, as you did.

Thanks mate, it looks good.

Did you paint these wheels yourself Crowman? I was thinkin of doin mine black.

Done it all - everything - oily bits, body bits internal bits and still love it ta bits!!

Oddly the wheels were a bit of a rush job - new rims all luvverly and silver slightly used 235 MT's put on and then out with the rattle can.

Should have keyed the new wheels as the matt black paint comes off and I have to give a quick sqib more periodically.

I will do properly when I repaint her in 2013 - satin not bloody awful matt.
